Submission Guidelines

The Ecotone is primarily founded on a culture of communication and accessibility of ideas between the academy and larger, community-based audiences. As such, we prioritize work that offers distilled, jargon-free, and relevant ideas and concepts on environmental and cultural concerns while speaking to larger, interdisciplinary audiences within and outside of the academy.

We accept a variety of submissions:

  • Original essays, short stories, and poems on environmental issues/themes
  • Original photography, web comics, and other visual art
  • Interviews with scholars
  • Interviews with community members/activists
  • Interviews with artists
  • Local exhibit/performance reviews
  • Book reviews
  • Film/documentary reviews

All work must be previously unpublished.

Prose submissions must be 3,000 words maximum and submitted in either .doc or .docx format.

Art/Photography submissions should be 300 dpi or greater and have high contrast and sharp definition and be attached in either .gif or .jpeg format.

No more than 5 poetry submissions at one time, and they must be less than 10 pages total.

We accept simultaneous submissions. Please notify us if your work has been accepted elsewhere.
